Normalization is the mechanical half of synonym resolution and it needs no user input, which is why it runs first and exhaustively. 500nM, 500 nm and 500NM become one component with a magnitude and a dimension.

The normalizer and its version are part of the component’s identity, so improving a normalizer produces new components rather than silently rewriting old ones, and a past run stays replayable.
